Integrated health impact assessment of travel behaviour
Transportation policy measures often aim to change travel behaviour towards more efficient transport. While these policy measures do not necessarily target health, these could have an indirect health effect.We evaluate the health impact of a policy resulting in an increase of car fuel prices by 20% on active travel, outdoor air pollution and risk of road traffic injury. An integrated modelling chain is proposed to evaluate the health impact of this policy measureThis modelling approach illustrates the feasibility of a comprehensive health impact assessment of changes in travel behaviour. Health Impact Active Travel
This study uses an Integrated Transport and Health Impact Modelling tool (ITHIM) to evaluate the health and environmental impacts of high walking and cycling transport scenariosHealth impact assessment modelling was used to estimate changes in Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) resulting from changes in exposure to air pollution, road traffic injury risk, and physical activity.with the largest health benefits attributed to reductions in ischemic heart diseaseMethods to estimate the health impacts from transport related physical activity and injury risk are in their infancy;
Health Impact Modelling Tool
The Integrated Transport and Health Impact Modelling Tool (ITHIM) provides integrated health impact assessment of transport policies and scenarios through changes in physical activity, road traffic injury risk, and urban air pollution.ITHIM is being used in a number of studies to estimate the health impact of scenariosThese health changes are linked to changes in greenhouse gas emissions. ITHIM can either be used as a stand-alone model, or linked to other transport and health models.
Health impact assessment
Impact assessment provides a range of approaches for supporting these processes. Health Impact Assessment (HIA) including Whānau ora HIA is one such discipline; examples of others include social impact assessment,Supporters of HIA in New Zealand include the health sector, other sectors, public health academics, and HIA practitioners.Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is a systematic way of identifying the potential impacts on the wellbeing and health of the population of any proposed policy,This page provides access to health impact assessments that have been carried out in New Zealand.
Background
n 2002, the Ministerial Group on Public Health (MGPH) commissioned the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPHI) to develop a methodology and draft guidance document to assist policy makers to carry out HIAs.Australian Beach Culture for Travelers The result was the publication of the draft Health Impact Assessment Guidance document in August 2003. This has since been revised and updated and the latest HIA Guidance can be found at

Abstract
Transportation policy measures often aim to change travel behaviour towards more efficient transport. While these policy measures do not necessarily target health, these could have an indirect health effect. We evaluate the health impact of a policy resulting in an increase of car fuel prices by 20% on active travel, outdoor air pollution and risk of road traffic injury. The model can therefore add to identifying win-win situations for both transport and health
